PPA description

A personal package for the excellent "kmscon" replacement for the Linux console. This alternative console supports 256 colors, OTF font rendering via pango, and Xkb for input (so you can tweak key-repeat delay and rate).

This package still has a few rough areas so it's not quite ready for mainstream inclusion yet. Notably, the terminal emulation sometimes gets the start of the line wrong, and I've experienced one or two outright freezes. So it's probably not suitable for use on a long running server, but for those that like to work at the console (as I usually do on my Raspberry Pis), it's a wonderful alternative.

Installing the package will override the autovt@ service, replacing the system getty. For this reason you'll need to reboot after installation to get the new console. Furthermore, if you wish to remove the package you should "purge" it to remove the autovt@ service link. If you wish to disable the autovt@ service link while the package is installed (so that it doesn't override the default console) simply:

$ sudo rm /etc/systemd/system/autovt@.service
